My Life with the Walter Boys

"My Life With the Walter Boys" was written by Ali Novak. It was one of my latest reads and I really enjoyed pursuing it.
It follows the life of New Yorker Jackie Howard, who just lost her entire family in a car accident. Her mother's best friend - Katherine Walter takes her home with her. There's just one problem, Katherine has 11 sons and one daughter, Parker, who doesn't really act like a girl. Katherine lives in a big house in Colorado.

Jackie has trouble settling into the family - naturally. For starters, she just lost her whole family. Jackie now has to start over in school while also having to deal with moving across the country. Not to mention, she is very prim, perfect, and proper. As you probably know, that would be hard to do in a house filled with boys. She has to deal with a house full of ruckus-creating country boys, who often forget what personal space and privacy means.

She finds herself caught between the affections of two of the Walter boys, Alex and Cole. Their sibling rivalry which started long before she entered the scene, intensified in her presence. She tries to stay neutral, but can’t for long. She also tries to befriend the other boys. After all, she can’t give the silent treatment very well when they’re all under the same roof.

After a lot of struggling, Jackie finally becomes part of the family and feels like she has a new home.

Some girls today like hanging out with boys a lot and they like to feel like they are ‘one of the guys.’ This book’s perspective shows us that no matter how much we might want to spend all our time with them, they will eventually drive us crazy. It shows us that girlhood and female company is important.
