Here's What's Next
This isn't really goodbye, but still a farewell.
Tomorrow morning, I'm leaving Chennai to go do my Master's in Bangalore. I still kind of remember stepping into Chennai a little over 10 years ago. I was moving back here with my family from the US. When I stepped out of the airport, I thought, "there's no turning back now." I remember the humidity enveloping me in greeting.
Now, I'm leaving. Sure, I've gone on trips before and studied abroad for a semester. This feels different, though. I'm going to be there for two years- yeah, I'm going to come back to visit, but it changes things, doesn't it? I'm not sure where these 2 years will take me. I have no idea what path they will set me on.
However, Chennai will always have a part of my heart. It's the city where I met my closest friends. It's where I learned to drive. It's where I accomplished so much and have passed through so many milestones. I will miss the humidity (a bit). I'll miss the people.
Oh, I'll miss the language too. I know I'm known for my English and my funny 'posh' accent. But I guess there is familiarity in speaking Tamil and most people around me - on the streets and stuff - understanding.
I'll miss the roads I drove around and the nooks and crannies I know like the back of my hand and the potholes I avoid carefully. I'll miss the road junctions I hate waiting at.
Okay... I'm not going to go on and on about what I'll miss. Instead, I'm going to think about what I am going to get there. I'm going to learn new things, meet new people, learn new languages, have new opportunities to over achieve, and I'm going to study something I absolutely adore.
I am going out of my mind with excitement!
