Let It Once Be Me

This particular line in the song 'The Prophecy' sang out to me. What I see here is a girl who was always second best. She was someone who put everyone else's needs before her own. She would do anything for someone she loved. She would sacrifice herself for someone she loves.

Yet, nothing she does is ever enough. Even though she prioritizes important people in her life, no one does the same for her. She is never anyone's first choice. She doesn't know what it's like to be prioritized. She doesn't know how to let anyone take care of her. However, she wants to know what that feels like.

Yes, she is a high maintenance. Yes, she does have some expectations. But, that doesn't mean that she doesn't need someone to be there for her. It doesn't mean that she doesn't secretly crave a bit of pampering from time to time. She is self-sufficient, but she needs some time to be small.

This girl wants to be chosen by someone. She wants to be prioritized. She craves someone who knows her inside out and loves her despite all her flaws. She wants someone to look past them and see her for who she truly is. She wants to be someone's first priority.

If you see a girl like this... someone craving this... someone who puts everyone before herself... prioritize her once in a while. She will thank you very much.

  1. This reminds me of the character Allison from the movie, "Meet Joe Black". She constantly seeks her father's approval in the movie but her father doesn't care much. There is a particular scene where her father asks why she loves and does so much for him while knowing he doesn't care that much as she cares for his other daughter Susan. But Allison says that she feels loved and is always thankful for her father for providing for her. She knows she's not his favourite but she let's him know that it won't stop her from loving him with all her heart. Such an emotional scene.
