Why is reading important?

I’m not going to say something philosophical like “Today’s readers are tomorrow’s leaders.” Instead, I’m going to talk about why I love reading and why I think it’s important.

I started reading at a very young age and have always felt like books were my constant companion. They were my ticket to escape reality. I strongly believe that reading allows you to enter a world that you could never imagine existed. They make you forget everything else and let you lose yourself in the story. My favourite type of book is one written from the first-person perspective.

Here, you become the character. You become the protagonist. The whole world revolves around YOU! You get to live the story, an epic adventure or intimate romance. Reading also helps improve your vocabulary and your general knowledge. I mean, I wouldn’t have known half the things I do if I didn’t read.

Watching the mistakes that the characters in the story make helps make sure you don’t make the same mistakes. You can learn from them and grow with them. When you identify with the characters, you learn more about yourself. Reading can help you identify your flaws and strengths. But, beware, they can make you fall for morally grey men. Reading also enhances your creative ability. It’s always been my dream to publish a book and to see my name on the cover of a book. I realize that the only way I can achieve that is if I have a high creative thinking capacity, which reading helps me gain.

Reading has played a vital role in my life and I would really encourage everyone to read more. It can truly add something to your life that you never realized you were lacking.

  1. Sounds reassuring. Definitely motivates one to get into the habit of reading.

As an avid reader of my own I do realize why books play a role in shaping individuals and how it is a leisurely activity where we don't have to use phones as a means to read something when you already got the stuff in your hands. Good work.
