The Treasure Hunt

Today, one of the departments of our college conducted a treasure hunt contest as part of their inter-department event. I was determined to participate and motivated to win, especially since it was one of the last events I could participate in with my favourite seniors - the best ones a girl could ask for. We were supposed to have a team of 4 people, it was me and 3 of my seniors – all guys.

After we confirmed our registration, we went to wait at the starting point, biding our time, eager to get started – or at least I was. I sat there for around a half hour, watching the guys roughhousing, just begging to be disqualified (we had been informed that we were supposed to maintain ‘decorum’ unless we wanted to receive a warning.)

As soon as we received the first clue, my teammates sprinted to where they thought the next clue lay. I couldn’t keep up with them and was left in the dust. I ‘power-walked’ to find them, but it was an epic failure and my efforts were in vain. The clue wasn’t there. And so, the hunt proceeded.

We were only able to find the first 3 clues, but, somehow, we managed to hit 8 of the 9 locations where the clues were supposed to be. By the time we figured out what the third clue – that had stumped us – meant, 3 teams had already arrived at the finish line. My teammates and I were exhausted, hungry, and dripping with sweat. We decided to call it a day and resign from the race with honour.

If it wasn’t already obvious, we didn’t win. I, for one, didn’t mind. I had loads of fun and as they say, “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.”
