Katherine Pierce, The Queen of Hell

Katherine Pierce or Katerina Petrova, no matter how you refer to her, is the worst villain in TVD history. However, it’s hard not to look at her as a victim of circumstance.

Katherine is described as manipulative and ruthless. She will stop at nothing to get what she wants. She has a strong sense of self-preservation and will always, ALWAYS, put herself first.

Everyone always claims that she ruined their lives while glazing over everything that happened to her. She was chased out of her own family home. Her family considered that she was a disgrace after she gave birth to a daughter. Her newborn daughter was ripped from her arms moments after she gave birth. She was coveted for her blood and the abilities it possessed. She was forced to kill herself to save her life. Her family was mercilessly slaughtered. She became a vampire and then was pursued for centuries. She was on the run for the entirety of her vampire life. In between all this, she turned the Salvatore brothers into vampires which, everyone claims, ruined their lives.

Let’s think for a moment, shall we? If Katherine hadn’t turned them, would they have met their true loves, Elena and Caroline? Would they have found peace? Yes, Katherine was evil. She did a lot of despicable things. She is impulsive and longs for luxury. But, next time you judge her, remember what she has been through.

Yes, Katherine is the literal ‘Queen of Hell’ but she had her reasons for being evil. Not that anything justifies her malevolent deeds, of course. 

Remember, she was a survivor.
