I Just Wanted Your Safety

It was not control 
Just a warning
Stitched from old wounds
And things I learned through pain 

It was out of care 
The kind that lingers 
Even when it's inconvenient 
Or misunderstood

It was never meant to hold you back 
Not a cage
Nor a leash
Not a need to decide for you

But you heard limits in my voice
Like I was telling you 'no'
But there were only fractures 
And wounds trying to speak 

I saw how easily
Trust could be twisted 
How a smile could hide
Something sharp 

I walked through roads
I thought were harmless
And I remember
How quickly the tables turned 

So, when I spoke
It wasn't to shrink your world 
It was to keep it whole 
And to keep you safe 

You thought I was holding you back 
When I was just
Standing in front of a storm
To keep you from harm's way 

You went anyway 
Certain of your footing 
While I stayed behind
Watching from afar incase you needed me 

But when you thought I was holding you down
Past all the fear and frustration,
All I wanted was 
For you not to be hurt like me 

I don't think I deserve
Your wrath 
For in the bottom of my heart

Today, I'm beginning a new journey. I'm travelling across the Atlantic on my own, heading to LeTourneau University in Texas for a semester abroad. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous right now. I'm about to get on a plane and end up in a place I've never been before and be with people I've never met before.  On the other hand, I'm super excited. I've never lived away from home before, and I'm really looking forward to this amazing opportunity. I'm sure there are things I will find hard, but isn't learning how to do those things part of the experience?  Initially, I wanted to go here on a whim, but now, it has become more. I want to go to experience life, to make mistakes and learn from them, to become a better person. I want to learn how to be bolder, more confident, and braver. A Tribute to My Seniors

  Before I start, I’d like to say that this is a very personal post, dedicated to a few very special individuals.  Anderlin, Sharan, Shane, and Mugunthan.  Technically they are my seniors, but they have become something more. These guys are the reason I made it through the year and have become irreplaceable brother figures to me. I may not call them ‘Anna,’ but the respect they earned from me is immeasurable. I still remember the first time I saw them. I was at an ethnic walk practice. It was only my second day there and I wasn’t very confident yet.  The four of them weren’t around on the first day of practice.  That’s when they arrived. They appeared, walking in a straight line. They looked so majestic and powerful that they scared me. They came to stand in front of me and I remember chills running down my spine. Types of People at LeTourneau

This morning, I had an activity in class. It was to list all the types of people at LeTourneau in two minutes. We were going to see who could list the most in this time. (I won by the way.) It was interesting to see how many different types of people there were, all in one small place.  I listed out things like 'where is your bag,' 'huge water bottle,' 'sleepy,' 'always on a call, 'texting,' 'chatterbox,' and others. It was really nice to see how all these people had friends who were opposite to them. For example, a sleepy and silent person was friends with someone very talkative.  Similarly, there are people from so many different backgrounds here. There are Americans, Texas natives, international students, and natives from a different nationality originally.
